I am a Modern Day Virago, a women warrior with my sword and shield, slashing away profusely at whatever elements of life cross my path. I always have my sword up and ready to fight, to defend my honor, to defend my family, to defend my community, to defend my earth, or perhaps, just perhaps, simply just my ego or the lack of any real identifiable purpose! So be careful, I just might cut you…
The interesting thing about MY sword, is that it is like a chameleon. It changes very rapidly to suit my surroundings.
Sometimes my sword is sharp and ready to attack for nothing, it wants to attack just because it knows it can, controlling it can be quite a battle.
Sometimes my sword turns into a feather, and it carefully and delicately reaches out.
Sometimes my sword turns into an ear, no mouth, no words, just a nice big ole’ ear that is ready to listen, and listen.
Sometimes my sword turns into a smile, and greets familiar strangers as we pass each other doing the same day to day, daily rituals. Why not, it costs nothing!
Sometimes, just sometimes, my sword is fast and furious and on those moments, I feel regret and no real satisfaction. I retreat behind my shield.
I find at times, my shield gets used a lot, to remove me from the battle fields. It is not necessarily retreating, just me and my sword and my shield thinking, thinking, thinking, and thinking.
I like to stand on top of a hill, with my sword reaching high to the sky and my shield down low to the ground at my side, my head looking out and my stance strong and bold.
I will always be a Virago, no matter what the meaning of the word entails through time, just me, my sword and my shield, once again ready to battle on…
To be a true Modern Day Virago you must be loyal and honest to two things;
(1). Your very primitive desire to protect;
(2). Your privileged superiority to know better.
…to feel you have nothing is life, to give something to yourself and others is living…
